Frequently Asked Questions

The questions that come up every September. If yours is not here, email us or ask on Discord.

Do I need experience to apply?

No. The club is open to anyone interested in science and STEM, and events are assigned partly on what you say you want to learn.

How much time does this take?

Weekly meetings for each of your events, plus studying on your own and with your partner, plus any extra work your coaches assign. Build events take the most, since construction and testing add up. The one real failure mode is procrastinating.

Do I have to pay for my own materials?

No. Relevant, reasonable purchases are fully reimbursed. Keep the receipts and turn them in to the coordinators.

What if I don't get the event I wanted?

It happens, and it's usually fine. An event you didn't ask for is a chance to try something you'd never have picked. A lot of people find what they're actually good at that way.

Who's on my team?

The club fields multiple teams of fifteen. Your team is you, your partners, and their partners, so you'll know the people you compete beside.

How does a competition day work?

You're there the full day and compete in your events as they're scheduled. Medals go to top-20 placements, and team trophies are awarded on overall performance.
